Homeless Shelter

Homeless Shelter

While the causes of homelessness are complex, there is much an individual can do to help. No matter what your skills, interests, or resources, there are ways you can make a difference for some of the men and women who are homeless. Under the auspices of the Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless (PVH) various churches and synagogues join together to provide a winter shelter. Typically, 40 – 60 homeless adults will seek shelter each night. Several of our parishes meet this need by opening their doors three weeks each year. The homeless ministry requires only one or two nights of your time each year and there are many ways in which you can help – collecting toiletries, preparing and serving meals, providing reading material, as well as staying overnight.
